The wife of Late Chukwudi Ordu, who was gruesomely killed during the demolition of
Toronto market by suspected overzealous officials of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission ENTRACO, has cried out to both government and good spirited individuals for assistance for the upkeep of the family.
The widow, Gift Ordu of Umuchima Umuoba Uratha in Owerri North Council Area of Imo State told journalists in Owerri on Monday that since after his husband was shot and he died on 29th October 2025, the society has abandoned the family and nobody cared to ask after the bereaved family.
Narrating the story, Gift said that her husband, Ordu (aka Tyson) an engineer and father of six was on Wednesday October 29, 2025, along with two other young men shot at close range by ENTRACO officials l who invaded the popular Toronto Junction like wide locusts with sporadic gunshots to enforce compliance to environmental regulations.
The widow who gave pathetic details of the gory incident said that her late husband on that fateful day had just arrived home in his car and packed inside the compound when sounds of gunshots began to boom all over the place.
Alarmed by the disturbing situation, Gift, a mother of six (6) said that her late husband quickly ordered her and her children to get into the house while he attempted to shield two men who rushed to their house for safety.
According to her, it was in the course of trying to be a good samaritan that Chukwudi along with two other men were shot by the blood- thirsty officials.
She said: “One of my daughters upon hearing the gunshots at our door peeped and saw him lying in his pool of blood . We were terrified and we took him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but they referred us to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri”.
At the FMC, Gift said that pints of blood were donated and surgery carried out to save the life of Chukwudi but all to no avail as he eventually gave up the ghost two days later.
Corroborating the story, a younger sister of the deceased- Amaka Nwuka said that her late brother who operated a block industry adjacent to her shop was mercilessly shot by the rampaging ENTRACO officials who stormed the area and began a shooting spree in the guise of enforcing ENTRACO laws.
She said: “The indiscriminate shooting instilled fears in the people who ran helter-skelter for their lives and it was the same ENTRACO men that shot him”.
Amaka disclosed that the family spent almost N4m to save Chukwudi, but all to no avail, regreting that both the state government and the traditional ruler of the community had not demonstrated any concern for the plight of the mourning Ordu family.
She said that Chukwudi until his death was the breadwinner of the family and regretted that since after his death, things have not been easy for his wife and children.
Amaka regretted that ever since Chukwudi died, government and the society has abandoned them adding that it was only the House of Assembly member representing Owerri North state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly that had shown his concern to the family.
