Umejiaku, Samson Bag Imo SWAN Heartland Queens Monthly Awards

Star attacker Oluebube Umejiaku and midfield maestro Faith Samson have clinched the prestigious Imo SWAN Heartland Queens Players of the Month awards for February and March 2026, respectively.

The duo’s selection highlights their exceptional contributions to Heartland Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), as voted by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter.

Umejiaku’s February dominance propelled her to the top spot. She delivered a match-winning masterclass in Heartland Queens’ convincing 3-1 home triumph over reigning champions Bayelsa Queens, netting a brilliant brace and providing a key assist.

Her clinical finishing and creativity not only earned her a spot in the NWFL Team of the Week but also saw her pip teammate Chimebere Opara in a tightly contested vote.

Umejiaku’s consistent brilliance has been a cornerstone for Heartland Queens’ attacking prowess this season.

In March, Samson shone brightly despite Heartland Queens suffering narrow defeats to Ekiti Queens and Edo Queens.

The composed midfielder dictated play from the engine room, showcasing vision, tenacity, and leadership that earned her Woman of the Match honors in both fixtures.

Her ability to influence games even in loss outshone her teammates and edged out strong competition from Victory Odalumen, underscoring her vital role in the squad’s midfield dynamics.

The monthly awards, an initiative spearheaded by the Cosmos Chukwuemeka-led SWAN Imo Chapter executive, aim to recognize and motivate standout performers throughout the NWFL season.

Journalists from the association meticulously evaluate players based on their on-pitch impact, fostering a culture of excellence in women’s football in Imo State.

Umejiaku and Samson will officially receive their accolades on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, during Heartland Queens’ crucial home clash against Pacesetters Ladies at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

Fans are expected to turn out in numbers to celebrate the honorees. Previous winners of the award include Chizoba Johnson, Emmanuela James, and Chisom Otika, reflecting a growing tradition of spotlighting talent in the team.
