Youths of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, have debunked reports in sections of the media suggesting that they passed a vote of no confidence in the organisation’s President-General, Sen. John Mbata.
This is contained in a statement signed by the
Coordinator, Ohanaeze Youth South-South zone, Mr Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, and made available to newsmen in Owerri, on Friday.
Arthur-Ugwa described the reports as “reckless, misleading, and mischievous” and called on the general public to completely disregard them.
He said that since there is no duly constituted Ohanaeze National Youth Executive Council at this time, the purveyors “lack locus standi” and should not be allowed to parade themselves as representatives of Ohanaeze youths.
He added that the south-south youth wing of Ohanaeze has rather passed a vote of confidence in Mbata for his purposeful, inclusive, and stabilizing leadership.
According to him, since his assumption of office, Mbata has demonstrated statesmanship, transparency, and commitment to the unity of Ndigbo (Igbo people).
He therefore warned that any further attempt to impersonate, mislead the public, or destabilize the structure of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will be met with legal and organisational actions.
“ Senator Mbata’s leadership continues to earn the trust and support of the youth constituency, which remains one of the most active and functioning organs within Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“ We therefore call on our President-General and the global executive council of Ohanaeze to set up an electoral committee that will conduct an election for the global youth wing executive.
” We believe that this will put an end to the recurring crisis of impersonation, strengthen the youth wing, and ensure that the voice of Ndigbo youths is properly represented at all levels of Ohanaeze decision-making”, he said.
He urged all genuine Igbo youths, stakeholders, and members of the public to disregard the purported “vote of no confidence” adding that Ohanaeze youths would not be reduced to a tool for sponsored chaos.
