Child Rights: Why I Slept with My Daughters, Man Confesses

A 54-year-old man from Asaba, Delta State, Edward Odega, has shockingly confessed to sexually abusing his three daughters over a span of seven years.

The grim revelation came to light after one of the daughters bravely reported the abuse to the police.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and drawn attention to the critical need for awareness and protection of vulnerable children within families.

During an interview at the Delta State Police Command headquarters in Asaba, Odega admitted to the repeated assaults.

He revealed that the abuse began when his eldest daughter was just 12 years old.

He further confessed that the two younger daughters, now 13 and 15 years old, were also victims of similar violations throughout the same period. This disturbing pattern of abuse has left the family and community in shock.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and provided details about how the case unfolded.

The breakthrough came after a police outreach program led by CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, the DPO of Ogborikoko Division, who visited a local school to sensitize pupils on the importance of speaking out against abuse.

It was during this session that one of the affected children gathered the courage to disclose the abuse, leading to Odega’s prompt arrest.

Edafe highlighted the ages of the daughters involved: 13, 15, and 24 years old. Following the arrest, all three girls have been taken to a hospital where they are currently receiving medical care and psychological support to help them recover from the trauma.

The police have assured the public that investigation and prosecution will proceed swiftly to ensure justice.

This heartbreaking case underscores the urgent necessity of education and vigilance in communities to prevent sexual abuse, especially within families where children are often most vulnerable.

It also highlights the pivotal role of awareness programs in empowering victims to come forward, breaking the silence that often surrounds such crimes.

The authorities continue to urge anyone aware of similar abuses to report immediately for timely intervention, to salvage children’s rights to safety.
