Heartland Queens Held at Home by Pace Setters Queens

Heartland Queens dropped points at home after a frustrating 1-1 draw against Pace Setters Queens in a hard-fought women’s league clash, with coach Obi bemoaning his side’s wastefulness in front of goal.

The game kicked off cautiously, with both teams probing in midfield. Pace Setters earned the first corner, but Heartland goalkeeper Amarachi Atulayo cleared the threat. The hosts hit back with their own set-piece opportunity as the match began to open up.

A potential penalty went begging early when Monica Matthew was fouled in the box, but she sprang up to sustain the attack. Heartland created several half-chances in the first period, though Emmanuella James squandered Pace Setters’ clearest opening.

Star forward Faith Samson, fresh off her Imo SWAN Player of the Month award, broke the deadlock for Heartland with a clinical finish, sparking wild home celebrations. Joy was short-lived, however, as Atulayo’s error allowed Pace Setters to equalize just before halftime.

Victory Odanlumen entered at the break for Onyinyechi Kalu and nearly restored the lead, only to miss a golden chance. Heartland dominated possession in the second half, but Pace Setters keeper Comfort Dzer made crucial saves, while Oluebube Umejiaku fired over from a promising position.

Despite late pressure and Pace Setters’ time-wasting tactics, Heartland couldn’t break through, settling for a point in a match defined by missed opportunities.

Post-match, coach Obi reflected on the stalemate: “When we played 0-0 at their home, we took it like that. It has happened and there’s nothing wrong with that. I know we missed several chances, but it’s one of those things in football. We didn’t utilise our chances, so we settle for a draw.”

The result leaves Heartland optimistic for upcoming fixtures, though the dropped points sting at home.
