Imo Assembly Hails Uzodimma’s Swift Action on Mbaitoli’s Ukwuorji-Nwaorieubi Road Rehabilitation

OWERRI – The Imo State House of Assembly has showered praise on Governor Hope Uzodimma for his rapid response to fix the long-neglected Ukwuorji-Nwaorieubi Road in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, a vital artery plagued by years of decay.

During Tuesday’s plenary on March 10, 2026, lawmakers unanimously adopted a motion commending the governor’s proactive intervention.

Chief sponsor Hon. Engr. Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie, representing Mbaitoli Constituency and House Committee Chairman on Environment, highlighted how the road’s deplorable state had inflicted daily hardships on residents, commuters, traders, farmers, and students who rely on it for access to markets, schools, and healthcare.

Ikpamezie recalled sponsoring a similar motion in 2025, which the Assembly adopted to urge state government action on the road abandoned by previous administrations.

“Governor Hope Uzodimma, in demonstration of his responsive and people-oriented leadership, acted promptly,” he stated, noting that the Imo State Government, in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has kicked off the first phase of reconstruction.

Early works have already eased transport, boosted commerce, and improved community access, with full completion expected in six months.

Urging colleagues to back the motion, Ikpamezie portrayed Uzodimma as a “humane leader” delivering results quietly.

The motion, seconded by Hon. Chief Johnleoba Iheoha (Ikeduru), drew co-sponsorship from 11 lawmakers, including Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, and others such as Hon. Chisom Ojukwu and Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri.

Contributions poured in from several members, including Hon. Iheoha, Hon. Barrister Chisom

Ojukwu (Nkwerre), Hon. Engr. Uche Francis Agabige (Orsu), Hon. Dr. Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte Mbaise), Hon. Sam Ikechukwu Osuji (Isiala Mbano), and Rt. Hon. Barrister Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh (Obowo).

They lauded Uzodimma’s commitment to equitable development across Imo State and his professional governance style.

Presiding Speaker Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe put the motion to a vote, securing unanimous adoption.

The resolution commends Uzodimma’s “visionary leadership,” acknowledges NDDC’s role, and urges timely, high-quality completion by state agencies. The Clerk was directed to notify the governor. This development underscores ongoing efforts to revive Imo’s rural infrastructure, signaling potential relief for Mbaitoli’s economy amid broader state reconstruction drives.
