Imo SWAN thumbs up Inaugural Wakawaka Sports Awards

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, has thrown its weight behind the highly anticipated Wakawaka Sports Awards—an event dedicated to honouring individuals who have made remarkable contributions to sports development in Nigeria and beyond.

This endorsement was confirmed through a press release sanctioned by the Chairman of SWAN, Imo, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, and worded by the Assistant Secretary, Anthony Ahize.

The prestigious award in its debut edition is planned by one of Imo SWAN’s members, Kennedy

Onwunali—CEO of Wakawaka Sports and Silvernews Communications and it comes up this Saturday June 7th, 2025, at the luxurious City Cruz Hotel, owned by Chief Kachi Atufule, CEO of Malick Football Club.

The Wakawaka Sports Awards will feature several notable categories, including; Young Sports Personality of the Year and Evergreen Sports Achievement Award among others.

These awards aim to celebrate excellence by recognizing both emerging and legendary figures whose efforts have significantly shaped the sporting landscape in Nigeria and across the globe.

The event will bring together a diverse mix of athletes, administrators, media professionals, and enthusiasts in a night of celebration and recognition. 

It underscores the mission of Wakawaka Sports Extra—a platform with a longstanding commitment to promoting young sports talents and connecting accomplished figures worldwide.

With its debut edition already generating buzz, the Wakawaka Sports Awards is set to become an annual tradition, dedicated to inspiring a new generation of sports leaders and honouring those who exemplify excellence, dedication, and innovation in the sports industry.
