Naze Youths Block Aba-Owerri Road Over Alleged ENTRACO Killing in Imo State

Owerri, Imo State – The morning of Friday, September 5, 2025, witnessed a major disruption of traffic flow along Aba Road, Naze Owerri, as an aggrieved crowd of youths from Naze descended on the Entraco office to stage a protest.

The demonstration was triggered by the tragic death of one of their own in an accident allegedly caused by operatives of the Imo Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO).

According to eyewitnesses, the deceased—a father-to-be whose wife had just informed him of safely delivering their first child via a phone call—was pursued by ENTRACO operatives.

In a desperate attempt to evade the chase, he reportedly lost control of his white Mercedes Benz Jeep, which collided head-on with an oncoming trailer branded with Indomie Noodles colors, registered APP 424 AN from Lagos.

The crash resulted in his instant death, sending shockwaves through the community.

The youths of Naze, consumed by grief and anger, gathered in large numbers at the ENTRACO office on Aba Road to demand justice and accountability for the death of their brother.

With chants and placards, they called out the operatives for their recklessness and alleged role in the fatal incident, asserting that such actions have no place in their community.

Security personnel comprising the police and military have been promptly deployed to the ENTRACO office in an effort to maintain law and order and prevent any escalation of violence.

Despite the visible presence of armed forces, the protesting youths remained undeterred, affirming their determination to see justice served regardless of the security apparatus surrounding the site.

The protest highlights growing concerns over the activities of task forces in Imo State, which, despite several official announcements by Gov. Hope  Uzodimma to dissolve all such units, continue to operate with impunity.

Critics argue that these operatives are increasingly becoming sources of fear and embarrassment for citizens, undermining the government’s stated commitment to reform.

Community members and human rights advocates are now calling for an independent investigation into the accident to establish the facts and hold responsible parties accountable.

They stress the need for reforms in how traffic enforcement is conducted to prevent future tragedies and restore public confidence in security agencies.

As the protest continues, the eyes of Imo State residents and the nation remain on Aba Road, Naze Owerri, awaiting a response from authorities that can both bring solace to the grieving family and uphold justice for the victim.

This developing story underscores the urgent need for transparent governance and accountability in public service sectors to prevent abuse and loss of innocent lives.

The ENTRACO incident serves as a tragic reminder of the human cost when enforcement agencies fall short of their mandate to protect citizens.
