As the National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games Ogun 2024 progresses, Team Imo has continued to harvest more medals with impressive performances across multiple disciplines.
In a significant victory, Imo state clinched a gold medal in chess board 4 female category (classical chess) this on Sunday through Mercy Nneka and Onwuchekwa marking a high point in the team’s campaign so far.
In para-sports, Team Imo also demonstrated strength and resilience. The duo of Jesinta Mbagwu and Amarachi Nkwocha secured a bronze medal in the para table tennis team event, showcasing remarkable teamwork and competitive spirit.
Adding to the medal tally, Nkemjika Iwuoha earned another bronze medal in para-powerlifting, further boosting the state’s standing at the festival.
These achievements have increased Team Imo’s total medal haul to 15 medals as of the time of this report, with hopes high for even more podium finishes as the competition progresses.
