Positive Influence: Peter Obi donates over N1billion In Six Months

Since the beginning of the year 2025, Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has donated significant sums in cash to various Nigerian institutions, primarily focusing on education and healthcare.

As of mid-2025, his direct monetary donations have surpassed ₦1 billion, supporting over 30 institutions across the country.

In the first quarter of 2025 alone, Obi donated ₦210 million, of which ₦50 million was alongside Prof. Ozuah.

This amount represented about 31% of his calculated entire donations during that period.

These early donations marked a continuation of his commitment to direct intervention in human capital development, especially in education.

In July 2025, Peter Obi intensified this effort by donating over ₦110 million within a few weeks. Notable contributions include ₦10 million to St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, in Anambra State, after the school won a debate championship.

He also donated ₦15 million to Philomena College of Nursing Sciences in Benin City, Edo State, recognizing its role in healthcare training.

Obi further gave ₦90 million distributed among four schools in Kaduna State, with ₦10 million directed to St. Gerald’s College of Nursing Sciences.

Beyond large aggregated sums, individual donations of ₦25 million were made to Dominican Sisters’ College, Abatete in Anambra State, to lay a foundation for a male hostel, complementing his previous funding of the female hostel at the same institution.

He emphasized education as the most productive investment a country can make and a key to poverty alleviation and national development.

Peter Obi has also shown consistent support to healthcare institutions, with donations such as ₦20 million to Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital in Enugu in May 2025.

During his visit, he spoke against poor leadership and emphasized the importance of training healthcare professionals to improve Nigeria’s health sector.

His donations are part of a broader advocacy for transparency and accountability in public spending.

Obi has publicly demanded clarity on government budgets and expenditure allocations to ensure funds are directed toward critical areas such as education, healthcare, security, and poverty alleviation.

In summary, Peter Obi’s donations since the year 2025 have been substantial, with over ₦1 billion given directly to educational and health institutions across Nigeria.

His philanthropy underlines a continued commitment to human capital development and systemic reform, rather than mere charity, positioning his giving as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future.
