Court Orders Arrest of Ex-INEC Boss, Yakubu

The Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the immediate arrest of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, the immediate-past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The arrest order was issued for contempt of court due to Yakubu’s alleged failure to fully comply with a previous court judgment.

This judgment required INEC and Yakubu to recognize and upload on the INEC portal the names of the national and state chairmen elected under the Adekunle Rufai Omoaje-led National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Action Alliance party.

Despite partial compliance, Omoaje’s name has notably not been uploaded, prompting the court to deem this a violation of its order.

The order directs the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest Yakubu and commence committal proceedings within seven days from October 7, 2025.

This arrest mandate came just hours after Yakubu officially handed over his office to the

Acting INEC Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu
