The Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy, and Ethics (CSAAE) invites members of the public to contribute articles for publication in the C-Advocate Newspaper. C-Advocate Newspaper exposes abuses of human rights, rule of law, corrupt practices, and government failures.
The newspaper offers four columns for the public to contribute to:
- Know Your Rights Column: Some themes under this column include;
- The Constitutional rights of every citizen as enshrined in Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
- The provisions of the 1949 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- How to enforce the human rights of citizens through different designated channels in Nigeria.
- Current trends and research on human rights abuses and the need to develop innovative tools to prevent and fight human rights abuses in Nigeria.
- Empowerment of citizens to promote and advocate for the respect of human rights at all levels and hold perpetrators of human rights abuses accountable.
- For instance, human rights abuses/ violations such as a uniformed officer beating or extorting a unarmed civilian; child / spousal molestation; denial of inheritance to a widow or fatherless child; extortion of road users by the police and other authorities can be sent in, preferably with pictorial and/ or other evidence for use by C-Advocate.
- Follow The Law Column: Themes under this column include;
- Laws passed in Nigeria or proposed bills to be passed and their impact on daily life.
- Expose citizens on the process involved in the passages of bills into Laws.
- Advocacy towards the promotion of rule of law in Nigeria.
- Empower people to identify, prevent and fight abuse of law in their communities.
- For instance, any abuse of extant laws such as laws prohibiting human trafficking; the VAPP Act; Freedom of Information and Expression Act, etc can be turned in for use by C-Advocate.
- Good Governance Watch Column: some themes under this column includes;
- Good governance principles and the role of different government agencies and institutions.
- Processes and government agencies & institutions involved in public procurement in Nigeria.
- Provision of good infrastructure to the public and raising awareness about the deplorable state of infrastructure in the country
- Budgetary processes; how to track budgetary allocations under the approved State budget, budget implementation, and guide on how individuals can engage relevant stakeholders effectively.
- Electoral processes, the participation of citizens in elections and the prevention & fight against electoral malpractice in Nigeria.
- The legislative process in the House of Assemblies, House of Representatives & the Senate; empowering citizens to participate in the legislative process.
- For instance, do you know an official who has diverted funds meant for public services? Then you can contribute to this column.
- Eye on Corruption Column: Some themes under this column include;
- What constitutes corruption according to Nigerian anti-corruption Laws.
- Efforts of the anti-graft agencies involved in combatting corruption.
- Different anti-corruption agencies combating corruption in the country and their various roles.
- Empowering the citizens to report corruption through the designated channels for reporting corruption offences in Nigeria.
- Corrupt practices in government institutions & agencies and spotlights on government intervention against corrupt individuals.
- Conversation on the development of innovative tools to prevent corruption.
GUIDELINES
- The word limit for articles is 500 words maximum.
- Articles should be submitted in MS Word format to advocacy@csaaeinc.org.
- Writers should include relevant pictures or videos with the articles.
- Pictures and videos can be included in the MS Word document or sent as email attachments.
CRITERIA
Interested C-Advocate Newspaper contributors are required to submit two or more written articles as attachments to their application / expression of interest email.
