The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has pledged its commitment to the safety of farmers in Imo, describing it as “sacrosanct”.
Commandant of the NSCDC in Imo, Mr Basil Igwebueze, said this during the celebration of the International Civil Defence Day 2025 , in Owerri, on Tuesday.
C- Advocate reports that the Day, marked on March 1 of every year is celebrated to appreciate the efforts of Civil Defence Officers across the world.
The year 2025 theme is: “Civil Defence, Guarantee of Security For The Population “.
Igwebueze said that the event, which is an extension of the March 1 celebration, is specially dedicated to the safety of farmers as the farming season sets in.
“ Our farmers face challenges in the fields such as kidnapping, so because they are critical to our economy, we’re working hard to ensure that their safety is assured.
“ With the full support of our Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, we are also working assiduously to stem pipeline vandalism using our anti-vandalism unit, so as to bring attacks on critical national assets to the barest level “, he said.
He advised those with criminal intent to desist from their evil deeds, while urging members of the public to avail the corps of actionable intelligence on the activities of vandals for appropriate legal action.
Our Correspondent reports that the event was attended by farmers as well as by representatives of security agencies in the state.
