The construction of one block of two classrooms at the Community School, Eke Nguru in Aboh Mbaise council area of Imo state has suffered setbacks, largely due to lack of fiscal responsibility and accountability.
C-Advocate reports that the project, which is one of the Zonal Intervention Projects for year 2022 , currently appears abandoned, two years on, despite full release of funds for its completion.
Our correspondent spoke with the school principal, Mr Fidelis Nwoko, on possible reasons for the delay in construction.

Nwoko said “The reason for the delay is not known to the school management but we are hopeful that the project will soon be completed”.
He lamented lack of quality learning infrastructure as a bane of education in Nigeria and called on the Federal and state Governments to intervene.
However, a student of the school, simply identified as Ugochukwu said the students were “suffering rather than learning “ as there are fewer classrooms than students.
The project has remained unfinished despite having a whopping sum of N 13 million as its budget, fully and duly approved.
It is most regrettable that the school management have no idea why it has been delayed until 2024, having been started in 2022.
A Zonal Intervention Project for the year 2022, the block is still under construction.

C- Advocate, having confirmed full disbursement of funds for the project, therefore calls on the Federal Government, especially the representatives of Aboh Mbaise in the National Assembly, to visit the site with a view to recalling the contractors for speedy completion of the project.
No matter how endemic corruption may become, the education system which prepares a nation’s future generations must be given priority.
The money budgeted and disbursed for this project should be properly accounted for .
