In a bold move to strengthen security and promote a safety-first mindset across Imo State, the State‘s Command of the Nigerian Police Force has thrown its weight behind a far-reaching campaign tagged “Reinforce Security and Safety Culture.”
The initiative, unveiled by Hillary Henry, the National Convener of Inter-Agency NGOs, during a courtesy visit to M.G. Okolie, Controller of Corrections, is aimed at fostering collaboration among security operatives, civil society organizations, and the general public.
The campaign combines inter-agency collaborations, NGO partnerships, and a sensitization tour of Imo State University. It will also feature the presentation of the Counter-Terrorism Strategy and Tools and unveil a flagship project titled “Billboard for Local Government Awareness Walk and Recruitment Orientation Book” targeted at secondary school students across the state.
Scheduled to commence on July 31, 2025, the programme seeks to deepen mutual trust and cooperation between security agencies and residents in Imo communities.
The campaign aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national call for collective action against insecurity, cultism, and anti-social vices among youths. It also supports Governor Hope Uzodimma’s Imo Safety Agenda, which aims to create a safer environment for all residents.
Speaking at the unveiling, Hillary Henry emphasized the collaboration Service’s commitment to work closely with federal and state agencies in addressing cultism, youth restiveness, and other security challenges.
“This initiative is a call to action for every stakeholder – from security agencies to community leaders and residents – to work as one in securing Imo,” Henry stated.
The campaign will also focus on reducing recidivism through reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders, reinforcing the Correctional Service’s statutory mandate.
Partners and stakeholders have pledged full support for the initiative, describing it as “timely and impactful” in tackling challenges threatening community safety and national well-being.
“Together, we can build a peaceful and secure Imo State,” said Ugboegbulam Goodluck, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Imo State Command.
