Positive Influence: Heart Disease Prevention Training Centre: A Beacon of Healthcare Excellence in Nsukka

In the heart of Onuiyi, Nsukka, Enugu State, the Heart Disease Prevention Training Centre (HDPTC) has emerged as a trailblazer in healthcare services under the leadership of its Chief Medical Director, Dr. Camelius Ezeugwu.

The facility is a testament to Dr. Ezeugwu’s unwavering commitment to improving lives through accessible and advanced medical care.

Dr. Ezeugwu revealed that the inspiration behind founding the HDPTC stemmed from a deep-seated concern for people’s health and a strong desire to contribute meaningfully to community wellbeing.

This motivation has translated into a facility that not only provides treatment but also emphasizes prevention, making it a unique healthcare institution in the region.

The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, including a CT scan machine that enables accurate and timely diagnostics.

Its eye clinic, one of the most advanced in the area, is fitted with sophisticated instruments such as a refractor, auto refractor, CVF machine, and tonometer, offering patients comprehensive eye care services.

Beyond diagnostics and treatment, the centre boasts delivery rooms that cater to maternal and neonatal health needs, an updated pharmacy that ensures the availability of essential drugs, and a library designed to help patients blend mental wellness with physical health—a holistic approach to healing and recovery.

Since its inception four years ago, HDPTC has committed itself to community service through regular free medical outreach programs.

These initiatives are part of the hospital’s Corporate Social Responsibility, aimed at extending quality healthcare to underserved populations who may otherwise lack access to essential medical services.

In an innovative use of technology, the hospital has embraced remote telemedicine, which allows it to offer medical consultations and follow-ups to patients beyond Nigeria’s borders.

Notably, the centre has successfully managed cases from Mozambique and Ghana while maintaining strict adherence to clinical protocols, demonstrating its expanding reach and influence in African health care.

Dr. Ezeugwu also highlighted the importance of preventive medicine in reducing healthcare costs.

“Healthcare can be expensive and some procedures such as a heart transplant can be costly,” he said.

“But with preventive medications, which we offer here, such costly procedures can be avoided.”

His vision promotes not only healthier lives but also cost-effective medical solutions in the fight against heart disease and other chronic conditions.

The Heart Disease Prevention Training Centre stands as a beacon of hope and innovation in the healthcare landscape of Enugu State, driven by a leader whose passion and dedication continue to inspire better health outcomes locally and internationally.
