Reconstruction of Naze Road Gets Imo Assembly’s Commendation

The Imo state House of Assembly has commended Gov. Hope Uzodimma for embarking on the reconstruction of the Naze Timber Market Road in Owerri North Local Government Area.

The House made the commendation during its plenary session on Monday, following a motion moved by Kelechi Ofurum (Owerri North constituency).

While moving the motion, Ofurum said the road, popularly known as Ogbosisi, connects two federal roads and leads to many areas that contribute immensely to economic activities in the state.

He said the road was left dilapidated by past administrations, in spite of its importance to the economy of the state.

Ofurum said the road, when completed, would attract more development, save transport costs and enhance inter-connectivity to major highways.

The lawmaker further said that fixing the road would help to boost the state’s economy and reduce the travel stress experienced by the road users.

He, therefore, prayed the house to commend the governor for the reconstruction of the road, which he described as a “death trap”.

Supporting the motion, Mr Samuel Ogbunikpa (Okigwe constituency), lauded the governor and urged him to extend the work to other dilapidated roads in Okigwe.

Also, Mr Chigozie Nwaneri (Oru-East constituency) said the governor had done very well in the area of road infrastructure.

He said the Naze Market generates lots of revenue to the state and commended the governor for the quality of work.

Contributing, Mr Kennedy Ibeh (Obowo constituency) also expressed delight over the project, describing the road as critical because of its contribution to the state economy.

He commended the governor for his good intentions for the state and ensuring that all the major roads in the state were rehabilitated.

Following more votes in favour of the motion, the Speaker, Mr Chike Olemgbe, ruled in favour of the motion.
