On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, marking his second non-consecutive term.
The inauguration took place indoors at the Capitol Rotunda due to extreme cold, with Trump promising a “golden age” for America in his inaugural address.
Vice President-elect JD Vance was also sworn in during the ceremony.
Following the swearing-in, Trump signed several executive orders aimed at reversing previous Democratic policies.
The Executive Orders include the Following:
- National Emergency Declaration: Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border to enhance immigration enforcement and military involvement
- Withdrawal from Agreements: He withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization.
- Regulatory Rollbacks: Trump rescinded 78 Biden-era executive orders, targeting policies on immigration, gender issues, and environmental regulations.
- Military and Economic Directives: He mandated military support for border security and initiated measures to boost fossil fuel production
- January 6 Capitol Attack Pardon:
President Trump on Monday, pardoned more than 1,500 of his supporters charged with crimes in the Jan6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, including people who assaulted police, using his clemency powers on his first day in office to dismantle the largest investigation and prosecution in Justice Department history.
Among those set to be released from prison are defendants captured on camera committing violent attacks on law enforcement as lawmakers met to certify President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.
Trump is directing the Attorney-General to seek the dismissal of about 450 pending Jan. 6 cases.
The Jan. 6 attack that left more than 100 police officers injured and threatened the peaceful transfer of power from Trump to erstwhile President- elect, Joe Biden.
6. Citizenship for U.S. born children: President Trump also signed an executive order aiming to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or those on temporary visas.
This order reinterprets the 14th Amendment, stating that citizenship will no longer be automatically granted under these circumstances.
The change is set to take effect in 30 days and is expected to face immediate legal challenges due to its conflict with established constitutional interpretations The day included a church service as well as traditional events such as a luncheon and a parade, albeit relocated to Capital One Arena due to weather concerns.
