Uzodinma’s Continued Absence in Imo A Matter Of Concern

Gov. Hope Uzodinma in a recent meeting in Abuja with officials of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, the contractors handling various power projects in Imo state.

In recent times, concerns have been raised over the continued absence of Imo state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma from the State, especially since his re-election as governor.

In the last four weeks, it has been observed that the governor has hardly spent time in the state.

Last week, the governor held a meeting with the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, in Abuja.

During the weekend, Gov. Uzodinma attended the wedding ceremony of the daughter of his Anambra counterpart, Charles Soludo, in same Abuja.

Within the period, he has also hosted top officials of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company in the same Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

One begins to wonder if he merely chooses to operate from Abuja and why he so chooses, in that case.

While it is understandable that the governor has other portfolios such as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum among others, it is noteworthy that Gov. Uzodinma’s most important allegiance as public officer as enshrined in the Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution ( As Amended) is the position of governor.

Upon his election, he swore to uphold the constitution and to serve Imo people to the best of his ability.

While this may not mean that he spends all of his time in the state, it must be clearly understood that the best understanding of home, the best understanding of the yearnings of the electorate, is at home.

Having won 27 out of 27 LGAs in his re-election, one would expect that he makes service to the state an incontestable priority, hence , the need for a ground knowledge of the goings on, which knowledge is best obtained from physical presence.

C- Advocate is concerned about the overall welfare of citizens and residents of the state, especially their fair share of good governance initiatives.

We therefore call on the governor of Imo state, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, to, as a matter of priority, increase his physical presence in the state as this will not only  improve citizens’ confidence in his commitment to their welfare, but also offer him first hand insight into the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
